A Microgrid is a separate system of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) such as Solar, Wind Power, Batteries, Generators, Loads and associated Controls that can allow operation connected with or independent from the main utility power grid.

For electrification, the world is trending towards solutions that are more decentralized with a reduced carbon footprint which are automatically controlled. Users need power systems that are more reliable, resilient and sustainable. Uninterrupted power must be available for critical loads. Other important goals are to become more independent from the grid and to reduce the cost of energy. Microgrids can achieve all of these objectives and more. Microgrids can also feed power back into the grid when a power outage occurs.
