How does a SineWave filter compare to a dV/dT filter or output line reactor?
- An output reactor will reduce transient voltage overshoot seen by the motor.
- Consider an output reactor if the distance between the VFD and the motor is 100ft to 300ft.
- A dv/dt filter will do a better job than a reactor only at reducing transient voltage overshoot. It mitigates the high frequency components in the range of a few hundred kHz.
- Consider an dV/dT filter if the distance between the VFD and the motor is 300ft to 1000ft.
- A sinewave filter will eliminate transient voltages seen by the motor and virtually transform the VFD’s PWM output voltage to a sine wave. It mitigates both the switching frequency components and high frequency components.
- Consider a sinewave filter if the distance between the VFD and the motor is 1000ft to 15,000ft.
